Reflex: What's Your Reaction Time? ⚡

Reflex is the simplest game in the hub and the hardest one to cheat. A panel turns green; you tap. The number it gives you is how long light took to become a finger movement.
The rules
Wait. When the panel turns green, tap as fast as you can. Tap while it's still red and you lose one of your three lives. The delay before green is randomised, so you can't time it.
What the numbers mean

The 120 ms floor isn't arbitrary. Signal transduction in the retina, transmission to visual cortex, decision, motor command, and muscle contraction have irreducible costs — roughly 100 ms of it before the decision even begins. A "reaction" faster than that is a prediction that happened to land.
Worth knowing: your device is in the measurement. Touchscreen sampling and display refresh add anywhere from 20 to 80 ms, so comparing your phone number to somebody's desktop number is comparing two different things.
Getting faster (a little)
Reaction time is mostly not trainable — it's dominated by hardware you don't control. What is under your control is the overhead you add on top.
Rest your finger on the screen. Movement from a hovering finger costs 30–50 ms of travel.
Don't stare at the panel. A soft, wide gaze detects a full-screen colour change faster than a hard focal stare, because peripheral vision has faster luminance-change detection.
Don't try to predict. Anticipation feels fast and produces false starts, which cost you far more than the milliseconds they save.
And the boring truth: sleep and caffeine move this number more than any technique. Your morning-versus-midnight difference will be bigger than anything else on this list.

What is a good reaction time?
For a visual cue, around 250 ms is typical for adults and under 200 ms is fast. Anything under about 120 ms means you anticipated rather than reacted.
Why does my phone give a slower time than my computer?
Touchscreen sampling and display refresh add real latency — often 20 to 80 ms. The test measures you plus your hardware, so only compare results from the same device.
Can you train reaction time?
Only slightly. Most of the number is neural transmission and motor delay you can't change. Removing overhead — finger already on the screen, relaxed gaze — helps more than practice does, and sleep helps most of all.
